Another day in Stradford. Another day to see another star.
RSC this year’s Complete Works invites many companies outside of UK to provide unconventional English Shakespearean acting. By simple compare and contrast, it’s quite interesting to see the classical and the rebellious both are being accepted well here. Last time we went to see an German Othello probably has been considered too high-school to be performed properly in any English speaking country. But the take was fab. We met Edukator’s lead female as Desdemona.
This time it was The Merchant of Venice from New York. The rhythm somehow made me feel like I am watching Ugly Betty. But it was balanced by the hard-core Shylock F. Murray Abraham who has won an Oscar.
TV acting and stage acting differs. Sometimes experience helps. Next time we can see the grey Wizard (a Sir!) starring King Lear. I do consider myself lucky.
